Navigating Corporate America Isn't Easy. Wine Helps.
I know what it’s like to walk into a room of people who don’t look like me. Being probed and aggressively questioned every time I raised a new idea, or getting “mansplained” was hard to handle in my early days of navigating "Corporate." It's no fun getting passed over on social invitations just because I didn’t participate in the basketball brackets or office football pools. I also know the terrible feeling of not being promoted simply because my supervisor was busy taking credit for my hard work.
On the other hand, I do remember a lot of folks who did and didn’t look like me. I fondly remember those that championed me and spoke up about my contributions. Those that put their necks on the line by vouching my credibility and solid work performance. Those that trained me, mentored me, and gave me the unwritten rules on navigating corporate culture. This net of support is what sustained my career and gave me the momentum to keep striving.
Remember that relationships: the good, bad, and extraordinary, are what separate people from realizing their goals and getting the access and resources they deserve. I teach business skills to women, people of color, and anyone struggling to find the allies that will propel their careers. Relationships are the network for life, and the strategies that I employ through my talks, training and wine education platform offer more than professional development skills. I teach you a language that breaks down socioeconomic walls and levels the playing field in corporate hierarchies. We get farther together, so team building and relationship development are the cornerstones of what Motovino stands for.
I’ve done a lot of amazing things in my life but none as important as telling the truth and becoming vulnerable, especially at frustrating times in my career where I would have rather hid away in the peace of my solitude, and avoid those who I thought didn’t like me or my disposition. With all this said, I know the pain and I'm here to talk if you need help.
